Educating Our Future Citizens and Leaders

My philosophy: 

  • We should hire the best educators, pay them adequately, and get out of their way
  • School boards should perform board duties and not micro-manage the jobs of professional superintendents and teachers
  • A good education depends on children having engaged parents
  • School choice should be available but we cannot let it cripple public school systems
  • Politics and opinion should not play a role in determining curricula

Middle-School and High School Curricula Must Include:

  • Civics
  • Sex education, including family planning, contraception and realities of raising children
  • Environmental integrity and stewardship
  • Overshoot, including overconsumption and overpopulation
  • Media literacy
  • Bystander behavior
  • Ecological economics (in high school)
